The Story of our Name

Rooted in place.  The name Summit View draws inspiration from the local geography that shapes us—the Rocky Mountains to the west and Nose Hill nearby.

A Summit View offers perspective and inspiration, and the church aspires to be a spiritual high point—where all people can come to gain a broader vision, to feel closer to God and community, and be renewed.

A Visionary Perspective that Invites

The word view reflects our congregation’s desire to look forward with hope and courage. A "summit view" is panoramic—it sees the whole picture, honours the history of where we've come from and how our churches have come together, and envisions a bold, inclusive future. Summit View invites people from all walks of life and suggests a church is not static but climbing, reaching, growing, and always open to the Spirit’s leading.

Symbol of Unity and Ascent

Amalgamating two congregations is like climbing a mountain together – and we have done that well the last three years. Each person in this place and all who will be part of this community in the future has their own path and story, but now the view is shared. Summit View symbolizes the moment when those paths converge and a new, united vision comes into focus—one that values all voices, all gifts, all backgrounds.

Theological and Spiritual Resonance

Mountaintops are sacred in our faith tradition—places of encounter, revelation, and transformation. Moses received the commandments on a summit. Jesus was transfigured on a mountain. People looked to the mountains in prayer – lifting their eyes to God. Naming the church Summit View places it in that lineage of holy spaces where God's presence is seen and known in life-changing ways.

Isaiah 2:2-3

“In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains... and all nations shall stream to it...

‘that God may teach us God’s ways and we may walk in God’s paths.’”
